It seemed a very regular sort of a day to begin with .Got up at the tenth repeat of the alarm. It was too late to get Sam ready for the school bus . Flew her through the morning ablutions into the car .Halfway to school ,I realised that baby was sleeping at home, unattended! Dropped Sam to school ;earning another red card for late entry and some particularly vicious wrath from my daughter! Ran to the car to find it disappeared.. now I didnt know whether to pray for baby's being safely asleep at home or curse Him for making things worse -so much for my recent resolve of finally befreinding God!!
Came home in a taxi. Ever wonder why taxi drivers are at their friendliest when you're wishing you dont have to spend energy opening your mouth to a loved one forget a stranger?Obviously the wallet was in the towed away car..my burning looks changed into sheepish ones while I borrowed money from the watchman to finally drive the cabbie away!
Ran upstairs .. thankfully had left the door open by mistake . Baby was sitting on a pile of cushions seeing TV and drinking milk in my favorite mug.. 'Mama'a big boy ' he cooed happily.. As I hugged him, I couldn't agree more wholeheartedly. It was only later that I was to discover the fridge door open and a stream of milk from it to the kitchen .
Nobody ever said life was easy for a woman..; much less so a single woman! Yes , I thought, dropping baby to child care,we are an emancipated lot!Nobody to be answerable to, no in-laws to cower before and lose your personality under,YES! I am the master of my own destiny! Only there isn't enough time ever, to think about destiny ..much less savor my mastery!
Okay folks , I've reached work now and since I pay my own bills , I'd better work hard here and try not to turn green when the boss's wife drops in from one of her myriad shopping sprees with her umpteen bags to wish us a hi. The last time I went shopping ..well ..pleasure shopping ..was eons back..(before I was an emancipated soul.. remember?).See you then ..folks and lets hope we all survive till then!
